As the rains return to nourish our land this season, Kabalega Foundation is proud to yet again re-launch our annual Green Future Campaign — focusing on mobilization of tree seedlings for distribution to individuals, families, schools, and community groups across the region.

At a time when our planet faces increasing challenges — from deforestation to climate change — every tree we plant is a powerful act of hope and resilience.

Looking Back: Impact from 2024

We are deeply grateful to all our partners for their generous support in last year’s Green Future Campaign, especially during the Kabalega Independence Run 2024, where this movement was officially launched. Our sincere appreciation goes to our partners including; Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, National Forestry Authority, EACOP, Stanbic Bank Uganda, Roofings Uganda Ltd, Vision Group, SCOG Elite,  Hoima City, among many others who made remarkable contribution towards the success for this campaign.

Together,  we achieved great milestones, including:

  • Mobilization of 12,000 tree seedlings that were distributed free of charge to communities across the Bunyoro sub-region.
  • Seedlings were sourced from partner institutions and local nurseries, fostering community ownership and sustainability.
  • The run sparked increased community participation in environmental conservation and education.
  • The Green Future Campaign continues today under the Foundation’s broader Environmental Protection Program.

These milestones are a testament to what we can accomplish when we come together with a shared purpose.

Our field team is following up with tree beneficiaries to truck progress and offer technical support so that the seedlings planted are natured to maturity.

Why Trees Matter

Planting trees is one of the simplest yet most impactful actions we can take for the environment. Here’s how your tree makes a difference:

  • Fights Climate Change: Trees absorb harmful carbon dioxide and release clean oxygen, helping to balance our atmosphere.

  • Restores Water Cycles: Trees play a vital role in protecting watersheds and keeping our streams, rivers, and lakes healthy.

  • Protects Biodiversity: Forests are home to 80% of the world’s land-based wildlife.

  • Improves Agriculture: Trees prevent soil erosion, enrich the soil with nutrients, and provide shade for crops.

  • Supports Livelihoods: Fruit and nut trees offer food and income for families and communities.

What We are Looking For?

We are mobilising a variety of tree seedlings including:

  • Indigenous species – ideal for reforestation and ecosystem restoration

  • Fruit trees – such as mango, orange, jackfruit, and avocado for community areas, schools and homes

  • Shade trees – perfect for homes, schools, and public spaces

Our Target Recipients?

We target working reaching out and working with beneficiaries with a shared commitment for environmental protection, including:

  • Local farmers and landowners

  • Schools and youth groups

  • Churches, mosques, and community centers

  • Environmental clubs and CBOs

  • Any community members committed to planting and caring for the trees
