Kabalega Foundation Empowers Communities Through Skills Development Training

May 21, 2025 — Kampala / Hoima

In a bid to reduce unemployment and enhance sustainable livelihoods, Kabalega Foundation has launched a transformative initiative under its Community Skills Development Programme (CSDP). The programme is designed to empower community members—particularly youth, women, and persons with disabilitiesby equipping them with valuable, practical skills that not only improve employability but also encourage entrepreneurial growth and contribute to community-driven development.

Participants in the programme have received training in Baking and Confectionery Making, Soap Making, Basic ICT Skills, and Yoghurt Production. These hands-on courses are crafted to meet the demands of the local job market and equip individuals with the tools to either secure formal employment or establish their own businesses. These skills are especially important in a time when the need for diversified income-generating activities is growing.

We believe that equipping people with practical skills is one of the most effective ways to fight unemployment and spark sustainable community development,” said Ms. Kabahumuza Charlottee, the Programme Coordinator at Kabalega Foundation. “This programme speaks directly to our mission of empowering communities for lasting transformation.”

The CSDP takes a unique approach to training by offering both community-based sessions and courses held at Kabalega Foundation’s designated training centers in Kampala and Hoima. This hybrid model ensures that the programme is accessible to participants from both urban and rural areas, helping to bridge the gap for those in underserved communities who might not otherwise have access to training resources. By meeting participants where they are, Kabalega Foundation is able to foster stronger community bonds and ensure that the training is highly relevant to local contexts.

Upon successful completion of the training, each participant receives a certificate of completiona credential that not only boosts their confidence but also improves their prospects in the competitive job market. In addition, the skills gained through this programme enable participants to contribute to the local economy by either starting their own small businesses or pursuing new career paths.

Beyond the individual benefits, the programme has ripple effects throughout the community. By empowering individuals, Kabalega Foundation is helping to build stronger, more self-reliant communities that can contribute to the overall development of the region. The programme also focuses on sustainability by promoting skills that can be passed on to others, creating a multiplier effect within the community.

The Community Skills Development Programme is implemented in collaboration with Billbrain Institute of Technology, Development Revolvers Ltd, Kweza Enterprises, and other strategic partners. Their support helps ensure that the training is not only accessible but also of high quality and well-suited to the current needs of the Ugandan job market.

Kabalega Foundation has ambitious plans for the future of this programme, with plans to expand its outreach and increase the number of courses offered. The foundation is committed to ensuring that more Ugandans—especially youth and marginalized groups—have the opportunity to develop skills that will significantly improve their livelihoods.
