Green Future Campaign
Kabalega Foundation is pleased to announce the Green Future Campaign. The programme is focused on enhancing environmental conservation, protection, and awareness creation. With the initial implementation area as the Albertine Region, and with plans to be be rolled out in other regions of the Uganda.
We believe that this programme will bring about positive change by addressing the problem of climate change, promoting environmental conservation through sensitization of masses, promotion of clean cooking technologies, and creation of green jobs within our community, and we are eager to see the impact it will make.
What inspired the Kabalega Foundation to focus on the Green Future Campaign?
We are moved by the current global climate change crisis in sight to Sustainable Development #3 as our target which aims to balance ecological, economic and social goals, such as reducing carbon emissions, promoting renewable energy and ensuring equitable resource access for all with a specific focus on the greater Bunyoro sub-region, where Uganda’s nascent oil and gas sector is budding with great economic potential for the country, but with need for specific attention to the environment to mitigate the sector’s impact on the environment. Our Green Future Campaign seeks to address this.
2. How many trees do you aim to plant through this initiative, and where will they be planted?
Through the year long campaign, our target is to plant 500,000 trees.
3. What species of trees will be planted, and why were they chosen?
Both wood lot and fruit trees.
4. How will the foundation ensure the trees’ survival and maintenance after planting?
Through formal registration of persons interested in taking part, and follow up with them of how the trees are being taken care of, and giving them advisory support.
5. What community engagement strategies will be used to involve local residents in the tree-planting process?
- We shall be running formal calls/ads for those interested to come in and apply for the trees.
- Through partnership with Bunyoro-Kitara kingdom, we are also planning on working with Aba’masaza to have locals access the tree seedlings through them.
6. How can individuals or organizations get involved or support the tree-planting initiative?
We invite partners; both individual and organisations in areas of;
- Availing of tree seedlings for those that have for us to collect the planned numbers;
- Financial support to facilitate seedlings acquisition, distribution, training of planters, and overall environmental conservation awareness creation.
7. What is the timeline for the tree-planting initiative, and are there any specific milestones or targets?
The Programme is year-long, through September 2024 to end of next year’s second rainny season. Through this period, we target to mobilise and support planting of at least 500,000 trees.
8. How does the foundation plan to sustain the tree-planting initiative beyond the initial event or project?
- Through formal registration of those interested in taking part in the campaign and follow up.
