Thank You for Embracing the #GreenFutureCampaign

As this rainy season (September – November 2024) comes to a close, we would like to extend a heartfelt appreciation to all those who have embraced the #GreenFutureCampaign and taken the step to plant a tree, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future. Your participation in this important cause not only supports environmental conservation but also strengthens our collective responsibility toward the well-being of our planet.

This season, as part of our commitment to environmental preservation, in collaboration with our partners, we has distributed a total of 12,000 tree seedlings, comprised of both woodlot and fruit trees. This season, our primary focus has been on Greater Hoima, where communities have actively participated in planting trees to restore ecosystems, mitigate climate change effects, and improve local biodiversity.

The increasing rate of environmental degradation, particularly through unsustainable tree cutting, poses significant risks to our ecosystems. Deforestation accelerates soil erosion, reduces water quality, and contributes to the loss of biodiversity. More critically, it exacerbates climate change, which leads to unpredictable weather patterns, prolonged droughts, and extreme rainfall events. These impacts affect agriculture, food security, and livelihoods, making it even more urgent to address environmental conservation through actions such as tree planting.

Its more than environmental benefits when we talk about tree planting. The trees planted through this campaign hold tremendous value in addressing other key community needs. Fruit trees, for instance, provide vital nutritional benefits to the community as they offer a sustainable source of fresh fruit, improving food security and health, while enhancing the nutritional diversity as well. Fruit trees also have significant economic value: when harvested and sold, they can become an important source of revenue for households, helping to support livelihoods.

Furthermore, woodlot trees—when sustainably managed—offer significant economic potential. Beyond their environmental benefits, woodlots provide a steady supply of timber and firewood, which can be harvested and sold, contributing to the livelihoods of local communities. By adopting sustainable harvesting and replanting practices, woodlots can continue to provide economic value for generations, while also ensuring the long-term health of our forests and the environment.

A special thank you goes to those who have picked up and planted a tree this season, including schools, faith-based organisations, farmers, and individuals—your contribution is essential in this movement toward sustainable environmental practices.

The tree seedlings have been made available to communities, including schools.

We would also like to express our gratitude to our invaluable partners for their continued support in making this campaign a success. Our sincere thanks go to:

  • Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom
  • Hoima City Council
  • National Forestry Authority
  • Roofings Uganda Limited
  • Uganda Energy Credit Capitalisation Company
  • Stanbic Bank Uganda
  • East African Crude Oil Pipeline
  • Vision Group, among others.

This initiative is part of our broader goal to target the entire Bunyoro Sub-region which is host to the budding oil and gas sector in Uganda which needs special environmental conservation advocacy in the wake of potential impact of the industry on the environment and host communities. The next two rainy seasons will focus on Greater Masindi and Greater Kibaale, areas respectively. We are excited to continue expanding our efforts in the coming months and to reach more communities, helping to restore and protect our environment.

We also invite more partners to join us in this campaign as we work together to build a sustainable future for generations to come. It’s not too late to get involved—every tree planted makes a difference in securing a greener tomorrow.

Thank you once again, and we look forward to planting more trees with you in the upcoming seasons!

Plant a tree today and contribute to a greener tomorrow.
